Homework is key to academic success at Ark Putney Academy; it is an integral part of the learning process and an important component of our curriculum. Homework is an opportunity for research, independent learning and reflection. Through homework, students are able to consolidate previous learning, gain valuable practice of key skills and concepts, and to prepare for future learning. As students progress through the school, homework also offers them with the chance to develop study skills and promote their sense of responsibility, initiative and self-direction.

As with all schoolwork, but specifically with homework, the interaction among the teacher-student-parent is essential for successful completion of the tasks. Yet, the final responsibility for completing the homework rests with the students. Below is the amount of homework you can expect your child to complete per week.

KS3

  • 45 minute task each week for each subject
  • One week deadline per task

KS4

  • 90 minute task(s) each week for each subject
  • One week deadline per task

KS5

  • 5 hours per A-level
  • 15 hours per BTEC

Students use Microsoft Teams to see details of all homework set, along with copies of resources and due dates – and they can use it to quickly contact their teachers and classmates to get support should they need it. By using Teams, they can also make use of important programmes such as word, powerpoint and excel in order to complete homework to a high standard. Students access all of this through their Ark Putney Academy ICT account.
