Young Chef 2019
Friday 08 February 2019
Another year another round of Young Chef of the Year comes to Ark Putney Academy. The Young Chef competition is run by the Mayor of Wandsworth and the council’s Lifelong Learning team in association with borough schools. It nurtures young talent, teaches young people how to cook good healthy food to a budget, provides a chance to learn from the experts and helps young people get a foothold in the catering industry.
Our Year 9 & 10 students were pitted against each other as they fought for the title of semi-finalist. The three students Remi, Zaynab and Jafer were tasked with cooking three courses to a set time limit, with the finished dishes being judged by several panelists including the Mayor of Wandsworth!
The cook-off went really well on Friday, all of the students worked incredibly hard and were all praised on their standard of dishes.
Remi won overall and will go through to the final, Zaynab was the runner up and the judges particularly loved her cheesecake dessert. Jafer did really well and only just lost out due to timing.
Remi will meet other Young Chefs in the next round of the competition where they will be assigned mentors. All the finalists will receive extensive support and mentoring from chefs at major catering company Compass, which has been involved with the competition since it launched in 2013.
We wish her the best of luck in the next stages of the competition.
We would also like to thank our 6th form for putting together some content for the day. Our Vloggers are Alea and Alannah, photography by Cristian and production by Charlie. Well done guys.
