Friday 14th February is a staff training day. However, several Year 11 & sixth form teachers have requested to teach key stage 4 & 5 lessons on that day to help students prepare for both GCSE's and 6th form up coming mocks on the 24th February. Attendance to these lessons is compulsory. Students should arrive 15 minutes before their lesson in their daily, professional attire. If students would like to remain on site during lunchtime, lunch will be provided free of charge. Students must sign in and out at reception.
Mental Health Student Conference
Stem 4 - 2018 Student Conference
Last week we welcomed Stem 4 to Ark Putney. Stem 4 are a charity aimed at improving teenage mental health by stemming commonly occurring mental health issues at an early stage. With 1 in 10 young people aged between 5-16 experiencing some form of diagnosable mental health disorder - the purpose of the conference was to inform students about how good mental health can be achieved and to challenge any pre-conceived ideas they previously had.
Joined by other local schools, our Year 9 students kick started the conversation on how to help those around them that may be struggling with their mental health. They put forward some excellent ideas and began to build a campaign based concepts such as ‘Live in a world of positivity – remember you are good enough’. We were also treated to a rap by APA student Alexandre Gallimore – sending the message out through all mediums.
APA Principal Ms. Downey says ‘Mental health is a priority at APA. We focus on ways in which students can help themselves and their peers to handle the challenges that life has in store with the aim to have a balanced, meaningful and enjoyable life’.
