Here at APA, we are proud to be a “non-selective” school for students aged 11-18. We believe that inclusion and equality breed success. We don’t think it’s accurate or fair to define a ten year old student’s future potential with a standardised exam, so we don’t select our students on that basis.
Rather, we believe that all students will thrive in an open, inclusive school environment. APA’s faith in its inclusive ethos, superb teaching staff and excellent school facilities has delivered A level results well above the national average for the last 3 years, placing us in the top 20% of schools nationally for progress.
But APA is not just about exams. Our broad curriculum - accessing creative areas like DT, music, art and drama as well as the core subjects - offers all our students the chance to develop the strong character and key soft skills and knowledge they will need to succeed on whichever life path they choose.
We are proud to be part of Ark – a leading education charity and one of the country’s top-performing academy operators, with a shared mission to transform lives through education.
So, please come along to our open day events, watch the school tour videos on this site and see for yourselves the excellent staff and facilities which make APA a truly exceptional place to learn.

Our vision
Here at APA, we adopt a holistic view to educating young people. Through our commitment to inclusion, equality and attainment, we prepare every student to be a pillar of any community.
Our core purpose is to provide every student with:
- an appreciation of and curiosity for life and learning
- the courage and ambition to unlock and fulfill their true potential
- the desire to contribute to community and society in a positive way
- a sense of self-awareness, integrity and passion towards others
We encourage our students to commit fully to both their academic progress and the sports, arts, community and charity opportunities APA has to offer. In so doing, APA students will reach their full academic potential and develop the soft skills - respect, confidence and strong communication - that will help them succeed in all aspects of their lives.
This vision is supported by six key values. We call them our “pillars”, after the strong columns that support our main school building: effort, team work, community, enthusiasm, commitment and independence. These values permeate every part of life at APA. They are the focus of our assemblies, reflections and tutorials. They guide us in how we behave, how we work and in what kind of people we want to be.
